Career Summary
 
Barbara Bloom presents herself in SMALL CAPS but thinks in italics. Beyond her highly organized, detail-oriented presence is a creative, committed writer and editor. Barbara brings more than twenty years of successful publishing and communication experience to each of her engagements. With the goal of promoting clear writing, Barbara works with clients to identify strengths, isolate common pitfalls, and capitalize on strategies to enhance all forms of writing from manuscripts to memos.

  Barbara’s diverse career has spanned trade and academic publishing, healthcare, philanthropy, museums, and the performing arts. She has written and edited books and manuscripts, reports, newsletters, biographical profiles, press releases, brochures, direct mail, grants and proposals, radio and print ads, essays, catalogues, (music) program notes, and audiobooks.

Barbara has worked with such companies and organizations as Borders, Kmart Corporation, Little Professor Book Centers, Inc., the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, Wayne State University Press, Group [eX]: Buffington Design, Gayle’s Chocolates, Geologix, Inc., and The Droste Group. She has also assisted authors, artists, and musicians to develop proposals, artist statements, and media materials.

 
 

Management Experience

   
  As director of foundation giving at Childrens (sic) Hospital Los Angeles, Barbara led, trained, and evaluated the staff of the foundation’s grant writing department. She managed the bookstore and publication program at the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, California. As a sales rep for Simon & Schuster, Barbara also trained colleagues in their sales presentations and reporting. Barbara has educated board members and volunteers on the art and science of fundraising.
